Trudeau Institute, an internationally acclaimed, path-breaking research institute focused on combating infectious disease, has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist. The Institute has recently expanded to develop the Trudeau Research Network, consisting of productive, collaborative and strategic inter-disciplinary partnerships, including New York State, biomedical research institutions, biopharma/biotech, and major foundations, with Trudeau as a hub. The Institute engages in multi-disciplinary research devoted to translating the advances of basic science into new strategies to meet today s urgent infectious disease challenges.
As part of Trudeau Chemogenomic research, we are recruiting an outstanding researcher with expertise in structure-based drug design, computational chemistry, and chemoinformatics to help develop and apply breakthrough methods for efficient identification of new opportunities for therapeutic intervention in the control of viral and bacterial infections.
The successful candidate will deploy outstanding computational skills and a thorough expertise in modeling of protein-ligand interactions, and protein structure/sequence and small molecule structure-activity relationships. The person who is offered and accepts the position will work closely with the experimental colleagues at the Institute to establish determinants of pathogen survival, host response, and disease sequalae under realistic ex vivo and in vivo conditions and to identify small molecule tools and leads to eliminate drug resistant infections. The Institute is ideally suited for experimentation with dangerous viral and bacterial pathogens, contains ample lab and animal facilities, including Animal Biological Safety Level 3 (ABSL-3) Laboratories, maintained by experienced staff, and is well equipped with advanced microscopy and flow cytometry instrumentation.
The successful candidate will also benefit from working within the Trudeau Research Network, interacting in a highly collaborative manner with academic, clinical and industry colleagues. Duties will include computational and optionally experimental research, preparation of patent applications and publications, and presentations at conferences and meetings.
Qualifications: PhD with evidence of innovation, diligence, and productivity; pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience is strongly preferred.
Applicants from the New York City area will have the option to work from the Metro area, with regular visits to our Saranac Lake laboratories.
