Our Principal Hardware Design Engineer will develop RF and analog control circuits for the development of EFFECT's DWDM optical System-on-Chip coherent module products. The position requires multitasking and interfacing with multiple engineering groups in multiple geographic locations. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with designing next-generation coherent pluggable modules.


Role responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and test DWDM optical System-on-Chip coherent sub-assemblies and modules
  • Evaluate and select components for high-speed, analog, and digital
  • Create schematic that includes high-speed IC's, photonics IC's, microcontrollers, communication interfaces, and power supplies. And support layout of substrate and PCB for 400G and beyond transmission applications
  • Drive and execute RF, optical, and thermal, mechanical simulations and tolerance analysis by working with a multi-function team
  • Conduct component and system level characterizations for optical and electrical performances
  • Drive EVT processes and activities
  • Be part of cross functional product development teams involving software, electronics, optics and test


Required / Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • The perfect candidate has an MSc/BSc degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, material science, or a related field
  • A PhD would be of advantage
  • A minimum of 7 years work experience in opto-electronic / photonics coherent systems development
  • Deep understanding of optical coherent communications systems
  • Hands-on experience working with system-level optical communication hardware and components
  • Extensive understanding of coherent communications systems, including experience with higher-order modulation formats
  • Experience characterizing high-speed RF and mm-wave interconnects, amplifiers, and components
  • Characterization of RF/mm-wave systems, such as S-parameter measurements, jitter measurements, and ADC/DAC performance and ENOB
  • Knowledgeable of high speed optoelectronic devices (e.g. lasers, detectors, modulators)
  • Familiar with high speed IC, such as DSP, modulator driver, transimpedance amplifier
  • 7+ years of experience in optical transceiver design and implementation, including circuit design, RF circuit simulation and layout, and characterization
