What You Will Do

The Sigma Division Operations group is looking for a customer focused, detailed oriented individual to provide programmatic Materials Control & Accountability (MC&A) support for nuclear material operations within the Sigma Complex. This individual will provide support for the entire Sigma Division (Sigma-1, Sigma-2, and Sigma-Ops).

The primary goal of this position is to process a high volume of transactions in the Local Area Nuclear Material Accountability System (LANMAS) database system for Sigma Division for material transactions, and nuclear material processing for the Sigma Complex. This is a complex accounting, and technical position for nuclear material operations. This individual will also assist with running the Sigma MC&A office with day-to-day operations, but will also be an integral part of annual MC&A inventory for Sigma.

This position will be filled at either the Operations Support Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The selected candidate will report to the Operations Group Leader, under the daily direction of the Sigma Materials Accountability Team Leader, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Perform LANMAS Transactions for Sigma Division
  • Perform Item Adjustments and work with SAFE-NMCA for accounting transactions.
  • Technical knowledge of complex accounting systems such as: LANMAS/LAMCAS, etc.
  • Precious Metals Custodian (Alternate)
  • Provide Training Support for the MC&A Team.
  • Assist with writing, updating and reviewing current policies and procedures for the MC&A Team
  • MAR (Material at Risk) Calculations
  • Development of MC&A Capability & Materials Processing Center
  • MBA-510 Nuclear Material Inventory
  • Support Packaging and Shipment Operations primarily as a validator when needed by the shipment sector.
  • TOS (Termination of Safeguards), PVD (Programmatic Value Determination), and Waste Disposition of Sigma Nuclear Material Waste
  • Update MBA Fact Sheets
  • Verification of Material Movement for Sigma Division

Operations Support Specialist 2 $65,700-$104,400

The Operations Support Specialist 2 will perform the following duties:
  • Perform LANMAS Transactions
  • Assist with writing, updating and reviewing current policies and procedures for the MC&A Team
  • Perform MAR (Material at Risk) Calculations
  • Participate in MBA-510 & MBA407 Nuclear Material Inventory
  • Serve as a Precious Metals Custodian (Alternate)
  • Perform TOS (Termination of Safeguards), PVD (Programmatic Value Determination), and Waste Disposition of Sigma Nuclear Material Waste
  • Support Packaging and Shipment Operations primarily as a validator when needed by the shipment sector
Operations Support Specialist 3 $79,200-$129,000

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the Operations Support Specialist 3 will:
  • Provide Training Support for the MC&A Team
  • Assist in leading the development of MC&A Capability & Materials Processing Center
  • Update MBA Fact Sheets
What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Job Requirements for Operations Support Specialist 2:
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, procedures, plans, emergency, safeguards, and security procedures.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills.
  • Interest in working with radiological material, hazardous material, and/or classified matter management, accountability (MC&A), construction, coordination, packaging, transportation, DOT regulations, storage and disposition of waste.
  • Demonstrated experience in interacting in a customer service-related setting and work cohesively in a team environment to meet high demand schedule deliverables.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications including: Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated skill in accounting.
  • Q clearance, which typically requires US citizenship.
Additional Job Requirements for Operations Support Specialist 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • Advanced knowledge of institutional and organizational policies, practices, and procedures, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement.
  • Advanced understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing complicated coordination of high-risk activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of operations and operational quality assurance to both technical and non-technical personnel.
Education/Experience at level 2: Position requires a Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at level 3: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of nuclear materials control and accountability, including the use of LANMAS/LAMCAS software.
  • Knowledge of LANL specific applications (CPIMS, LANMAS, or other, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in nuclear materials accountability practices and accounting systems including associated tracking and documentation requirements, policies, procedures, etc

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
