Job Summary

COVID-19 Vaccine QA Reviewer is responsible for implementing health promotion activities to support immunization activities in California. Under supervision by the California Department of Public Health Immunzation Branch, this position will remotely assist local health departments with activities such as training regarding an online clinic registration platform, vaccine dose tracking and documentation, and school immunization follow-up.

The COVID-19 Vaccine QA Reviewer will also be responsible for assessing provider adherence to requirements of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program and promoting best practices for vaccine inventory, administration, and storage and handling. A major component of this position is providing comprehensive education on requirements and best practices for maintaining or improving adherence to these requirements. This activity will initially be conducted remotely and transition to in-person as appropriate.
The position may involve handling confidential health information.

Note: Temporarily remote until further notice. Regular work will resume on-site at California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in California once clearance has been obtained.
This is a contract role, ends 6/30/2024. HOwever, may continue if funding is sustained.


Department Description

The Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) was established in 1999 by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). It is a unique multidisciplinary and cross-institutional enterprise, formally set up within the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics in UCSF's School of Medicine. IGH, now the Prevention and Public Health Group (PPHG), seeks to improve health through research that informs policy. The research is part of a broader mission to advance the welfare of vulnerable populations in California, the United States, and abroad, through education, advocacy, and research. This position will be located with the California Department of Public Health Immunization Branch in Richmond, CA. The Immunization Branch provides leadership and support to public and private sector efforts to protect the population against vaccine-preventable diseases. The Health Educator 2 (HE2) position is responsible for implementing health promotion activities to support immunization activities in California. Under supervision by the California Department of Public Health Immunzation Branch, this position will remotely assist local health departments with activities such as training regarding an online clinic registration platform, vaccine dose tracking and documentation, and school immunization follow-up.

Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS in public health, human services, health care or other related area and 1 or more years of experience in human services, health care field, education and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.
  • Ability to acquire the requisite skills to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.
  • Detail oriented and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Time management skills and ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding professional environment; ability to adapt to changing circumstances and situations.
  • Must have reliable transportation and proof of adequate liability insurance (per University policy) to perform essential job functions of the position
  • Problem-solving skills and willingness and ability to learn any required technology.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of the design and delivery of public health programs.
