CNC Application Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

 

  • Work closely (onsite in Colorado Springs, CO) with our key customer and their machines to ensure equipment operates within expected tolerances
  • Assist customer with issues during machine building process
  • Assist customer with R&D project for current and future machines and projects
  • Manage inbound telephone load efficiently and in a professional manner.
  • Diagnose complex technical problems via the phone, speaking with individuals of varied skill levels and educational backgrounds.
  • Perform in-house diagnosis and repairs of Fagor CNC controllers, according to established procedures
  • Provide exceptional customer service, and interact effectively and professionally with customers
  • Work with our HQ Product Support Group (PSG) for technical assistance and provide them with diagnostic feedback
  • Use electrical and electronic knowledge to help troubleshoot and solve issues
  • Assemble, install, and align equipment as needed
  • Accurately report technical conditions and information of machines to PSG and management
  • Interface with cross functional work teams such as applications, sales, engineering, & production
  • Provide onsite training to customers for operation and/or repair of machines
  • Assist other Field Service and Application Engineers as needed
  • Receive factory product training and technical service knowledge as needed (in Spain and US)
  • Submit organized and helpful service reports for each repair trip/visit
  • Help to develop or adjust existing technical documentation
  • Work as required with minimal supervision in compliance with all safety requirements
  • Effectively interpret schematics and block diagrams to analyze, troubleshoot, and determine root cause.
  • Document problems and resolutions in detail. Fill out trip reports and create white papers.
  • Lead varied internal and external projects, from cradle to grave, as assigned by management.


 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


MUST HAVES:

  • AS in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical or related Engineering discipline
  • Customer service and phone skills
  • Familiarity with machine feedback systems .rotary and linear scales, encoders and
  • Ability to read, interpret and modify mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams/schematics
  • Troubleshooting of electro-mechanical machinery and processes
  • Familiarity with ERP systems
  • Familiarity with remote-access' systems and software.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to develop and maintain in-depth and up-to-date technical knowledge
  • Technical writing skills for preparing training manuals and reference material
  • Perform technical training and seminars for large groups
  • Organization skills, i.e. for documents, demos, work area and time management
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment
  • Ability to travel domestically (up to 30%) and internationally (our HQ is in Spain), sometimes on short notice, to support our customers, integrators, and to attend trade shows
  • Valid driver's license

 

WOULD BE NICE:

 

  • BS in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering
  • SAP experience
  • CAD/CAM experience
  • Experience with a wide range of machine tools; routers, lathe, mill, grinding, and 5-axis applications
  • 0-4 years of experience as a field service or maintenance technician in the machine tool industry
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc and Mitsubishi control systems
  • PLC programming skills
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with Ball-screws, bearings, gearing, Indicators, micrometers, gage blocks and optical comparator. Laser Interferometer and ball-bar a plus and various way systems
  • Valid US passport
